There are around 2000 common medicines produced in China, the type and quantity of raw material used for producing different kinds of medicine is different. Additionally, the great differences between pharmaceutical production processes and synthetic routes, lead to the great differences in quality and features of wastewater generated. The treatment of complicated pharmaceutical wastewater is still a difficulty and hot spot in China and abroad. The pharmaceutical wastewater mostly has these features:

1.     High concentration and high Chroma of organics;

2.     Contains matters that difficult to degrade and toxic to microorganism;

3.     Complicated composition of water quality;

4.     Poor biodegradability, etc…


The residual antibiotics and high concentration organics in wastewater make the traditional biological treatment method difficult to achieve expected result. Because of the strong inhibition for microorganisms caused by residual antibiotics, aerobic bacterial will be poisoned, and it will leads to the difficulty of aerobic treatment. While anaerobic treatment of high concentration organics is difficult to meet the effluent standard, further treatment is needed to meet the discharge standard.
